Spy Shot New Mercedes Benz A 205 C Class Cabrio

Up until a few years ago, Mercedes had two roadsters and one convertible, the CLK-Class. It was replaced by the E-Class Cabrio, and now they plan on launching two more ragtops in the C and S-Class ranges.

This is the smaller of the two, the first generation of the C-Class Cabriolet, likely to be revealed together with the coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015.

Stuttgart car spotter WalkoArt recently caught up with the test prototype that was carrying a whole trailer though the city. It's unlikely anybody will ever tow caravans with the C-Class, but a boat might be a good idea.

The E-Class Touring has won numerous awards for its pulling prowess, and we expect nothing less from the C-Class. It's a fine art, this towing thing, as engineers have to balance the brakes, steering and throttle. And while they're at it, maybe offering some help with reverse parking wouldn't be a bad idea.

We're betting the C-Class Cabriolet will be a classy looking car, especially when fitted with the AMG Sport optional package. That's what we see on this test prototype, and it makes us wonder why somebody would ever buy anything else.

Of course, there's no AMG engine under the bonnet of this prototype. By the sound of this, we're dealing with a C 220 d model, the bread and butter of the range. Mercedes will sell a lot of those in Europe, but for the US, the 2-liter turbo with 245 hp will play a significant role.

Prototypes equipped with the latest twin-turbo V6 have been spotted already. Eventually, there should also be a fully-fledged C63 AMG Cabriolet, rivaling the Audi RS5 and BMW M4 with its 4-litter twin-turbo V8 (467 PS or 510 PS, depending on the model).
