Spy Shot 2016 New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

This is it, ladies and gentlemen - the spy photographers caught the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport on camera way prior to its official debut on August 1st. Also known as the Montero Sport, Shogun Sport, Challenger, and Nativa in various parts of the world, the long-awaited Pajero Sport facelift is a thoroughly fine-looking off-road legionnaire.

After many spy photographs of camouflage-laden test mules and just as many renderings, auto publication HeadlightMagcom got its hands on the first pics of the production-ready 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport facelift without swirly camouflage. Regarding the front fascia design, those accustomed to the styling of the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander have seen that face before. On the off-road-oriented and truck-based Pajero Sport, that face fits like a glove and ups the visual appeal.

Around the rear, pardon our association with the styling of the 2016 Volvo XC90 but those taillamps do appear to be heavily inspired by the Swedish mid-size luxury crossover SUV. In a word, we’d describe them as dramatic but not in the show-off way. Edgy, futuristic, and visually striking, the taillamps complement the eye candy of the updated liftgate and the rear bumper. The pumped-up wheel arches and big alloy wheels give the Pajero Sport a muscular side profile view, a fitting persona for this kind of SUV.

Other than design cues borrowed from the 2016 Outlander and GR-PHEV Concept to some extent, the soon-to-debut Mitsubishi Pajero Sport facelift should boast an improved cabin design and better materials, joined by an extended array of features and technologies, including a Rockford Fosgate touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav. In terms of drivetrain, we expect that all is new and all is old for the greater good.

Under the sculpted body shell, the 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport facelift is underpinned by much of the oily bits used by the new-gen L200/Triton mid-size pickup truck. Other than the quintessential four-wheel drive, we guess that the engine bay will accommodate 2.4-liter and 2.5-liter turbo diesel motors and a 2.4-liter N/A petrol mill. Outputs range from 128 HP and 194 Nm (143 lb-ft) to 181 HP and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft).
