Know Mesothelioma Disease, Causes, Impacts, and How to Prevent
it was great to share experiences and knowledge with you to make it more helpful. This time I want to share the knowledge I can from my friend in Environmental Engineering, namely regarding mesothelioma disease, the causes, effects, and how to prevent it. What is it mesothelioma? You know asbestos is not it? Asbestos is the name given to a group of different fibrous minerals (amosite, chrysotile, crocidolite, tremolite, actinolite, and anthophyllite) and occurs naturally in our environment (US Department of Health & Human Services, 2001).
One of these mineral groups, namely chrysotille is included in the serpentine family, while minerals - other fibrous mineral belonging to the amphibole family. Although all types of asbestos dangerous (can cause cancer), but originating from asbestos amphibole group has a greater potential for harm to human health than chrysotille. Asbestos is most widely used in the industry is chrysotille also called white asbestos. While the asbestos of the amphibole group are not widely used.
Asbestos which has a fibrous nature does not have a smell and taste, they are also not soluble in water, do not experience evaporation and resistant to heat, fire, chemical and biological degradation. Due to the nature - this is the nature of asbestos is widely used as a material for various industrial products, especially building materials, friction products, and heat-resistant buildings. Well maybe for construction workers that the material is potentially exposed to asbestos disease mesothelioma. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. Washing clothes family member who worked with asbestos can also make a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking. Compensation via asbestos funds or lawsuits is an important issue in mesothelioma (see asbestos and the law).
Symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall) or chest wall pain, and general symptoms such as weight loss. The diagnosis may be suspected with chest X-ray and CT scan, and confirmed with a biopsy (tissue sample) and microscopic examination. A thoracoscopy (inserting a tube with a camera into the chest) can be used to take biopsies. This allows the introduction of substances such as talc to obliterate the pleural space (called pleurodesis), which prevents more fluid from accumulating and pressing on the lung. Despite treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or sometimes surgery, the disease carries a poor prognosis. Research about screening tests for the early detection of mesothelioma is ongoing. For now developed a durable building materials and asbestos-free.
Yesterday when I was half of one of my children came to show Architectural Engineering is promoting asbestos-free building materials. Now also have started to be developed in the University of Diponegoro to examine the dangers of the disease mesothelioma. With the cooperation of the Department of Architectural Engineering, Environment, and Chemistry, they begin to develop a replacement for asbestos as one of the components for a durable building material.
Well, so my review of Mesothelioma disease, the causes, effects, and how to prevent it. May be useful for all the friends who might later take on materia majors this article and probably more experienced than me. Apologize or less, keep the spirit and greetings successful!
