Since 1999, BMW has become the official car of MotoGP motorcycle racing series. The new year is more of the same for the car, but also newer. BMW has employed his M4 for the task of the safety car, and it came out wearing a coupe fitted with a unique injection system under the hood.
One thing that usually do not want to get into your machine is water. That, however, is what BMW is utilizing the new system its water injection. What happens is that the fine mist is sprayed into the air to the combustion chamber. As you can imagine, this is enough hot air before entering the heart of your car. Add a spritz of water to help cool it down and make combustion more efficient.
The addition of water-injection system allows the engine to burn fuel more efficiently while reducing the potential for knock. It also allows the vehicle to more effectively utilize the low-octane fuel. BMW had to refill the water tank every time refuels the safety car, but the car believe consumers will see the application of water that ends every five fuel stops.
It seems like the kind of technology that can deliver fuel economy gains are worth ... while also adds weight and cost to the vehicle. Are people like to add a second task required of them during a refueling stop? What happens if they forget to add water, the engine will just revert back as if there is no water injection system installed in the first place? Many questions, and they can be answered with this partially MotoGP safety car.
Regardless, I would say you can keep an eye out for these optional additional technology at the local BMW dealer in the not too long.
