Mini Classic Car Destroyed By US Customs as Part of Operation Atlantic
A little more than a year ago, a Land Rover Defender personally imported from Britain blasted by US Customs and Border Protection as yet old enough to legally imported under the rules of classic cars (ie 25 years or older). Now the classic Mini had suffered the same fate.
US customs agents, together with their counterparts in the UK, has been cracking down on the illegal import vehicles via the Atlantic Operations initiatives, one of which is the Mini's. The vehicle was claimed 25 years or more on the import documents that will be exempt from federal regulation, but was found to be the model is actually built in the 1990s.
Since the launch of Operation Atlantic, more than 500 vehicles have been inspected and some criminal investigation are made in the USA and the UK Often, seized vehicle unsafe or even reconstructed using stolen part of the examples of the older they are meant to resemble.
