A 1978 Chevrolet Corvette will be headed to Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona next month. Looks normal is not it?
Well, actually a man named Vince Granatelli, son of Andy "Mister 500" Granatelli, decided to cram turbine engines Pratt & Whitney under kep ST6B this long Corvette engine. Granatelli family involved in an Indy race car a few decades ago. So why young Granatelli want to take a complicated project like this? Because it would be remarkable if it is finished.
Corvette-engined turbine has a total power of about 880 hp and, according to Motor Trend test, it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Its creator claims can perform the acceleration in just 2.5 seconds.
And yes, the car is completely legal. To make it happen, Granatelli must create a new subframe, strengthening the driveshaft, and add the reduction gearbox to bring round the turbine engine is 37,500 rpm to 6,230 rpm.
Additionally, the entire cable car must be rewired to handle the aircraft instrument panel. Spec brake discs replaced with NASCAR, as well as fuel lines and a new exhaust system. This is basically a Corvette C3 with jet engines. This unique car auction will take place from 10 January 2015.
