The US Foreign Minister John Kerry meet President Jokowi

President Joko Widodo received the visit of United States Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Palace, Jakarta, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

John Kerry also met with leaders of the countries of Southeast Asia and Australian Prime Minister to discuss a number of regional and international issues such as greater support to the coalition of countries against the movement of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS, in the Middle East.

In a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, John Kerry praised the Malaysian government criticized the movement ISIS and discuss the importance of the international community take harsher measures to tackle foreign fighters who joined in the movement.

Kerry also praised Australia's active support of the fight against ISIS which include air strikes against the militants.

'Active Foreign Policy'

John Kerry also urged Joko Widodo resume an active role in regional foreign policy implemented by the government of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, amid fears of a new president will be to concentrate on domestic affairs.

"As the fourth largest country in the world, the third democratic country in the world and the country with the greatest people in the world, Indonesia's role is very important," the official told Reuters.

Kerry's visit is done before the East Asia summit in Myanmar next month and the APEC meeting in Beijing.

Before visiting Indonesia, Kerry did two days of talks with lawmakers of China, Yang Jiechi, in an effort to establish relations warmer before a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Obama after APEC.

Both sides stressed the importance of managing differences and cooperate against global threats such as ISIS.
